Support Groups

We are the Newbies

The Newbies is a group of people aged between twenty-five and forty (well, sort of, we’re not strict on this at all) who meet at different venues including the Action MS office in Knockbracken Healthcare Park.

We have tea and coffee and of course a good old chinwag. It’s great to talk to others who also have multiple sclerosis and many great friendships have been forged over the years.

However, our group is much more than just having a yarn. We decide if we would like, for example, someone to come and address our group. In the past we have had guest speakers who have included a physiotherapist, an MS nurse, a dietician and someone talking to us about benefits.

Also Action MS helps organize trips. Summer outings include visits to local garden Centres; Castle Espie; Newcastle and visits to the cinema and bowling.

We have loads of fun and are growing in numbers all the time. Why not try a Tuesday? If you would like to become a Newbie, just ring the Action MS office on 028 907 907 07 or email for more information.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Luncheon Clubs

Luncheon Clubs meets at the Action MS office at Knockbracken on the last Tuesday of every month from 11-30am to 2-30pm. Unlike the Newbies, we tend to be of a more “mature” age, with maybe even a slight hint of grey. A light lunch is enjoyed and activities include: speakers;armchair yoga and board games.

We enjoy getting together with the New B’s especially for our Christmas lunch outing.

Of course, if we decide we would like more information about something, Action MS arranges a guest speaker to come and answer our questions. A very popular guest is an MS Nurse as we like to be kept up to date with all the latest information about new medications.

  • The Belfast Luncheon Club meet in the Ivanhoe Hotel, Saintfield Road, Belfast on the last Tuesday of the month.
  • The Coleraine Luncheon Club meets in the Conservatory in the Lodge Hotel Coleraine on the first Wednesday of the month.
  • The Cookstown Lunchon Club meet in the Glenavon House Hotel on the third Wednesday of the month.

If you live in the Greater Belfast area and have multiple sclerosis why come along on a Tuesday? We have loads of fun and are growing in numbers all the time.
